Stop listening to the bad news now. Jobs are available if you can release your fear uncertainty and doubt.
So many businesses like mine plan to hire during recovery. It is difficult to find the right people even with millions out of work so here are some tips from recent older worker who secured jobs:
1) Open Options - if you've spent years in sales create a brief proposal for a newly funded or expanding small business in your industry. Give them the what you can do for how much salary to commission for which results? Trust in your knowledge and past performance. Be sure you include 3 references who will attest to your past performance.
2) Pitch yourself as a teaming partner on a large project a colleague has secured and is operating on overwhelm through.
3) Approach your last employer to learn which loose ends are not being met, volunteer to handle the overflow work for a month without benefits but with your former salary and 10% as a 1099 worker. After 3 weeks confirm ask for a review and whether you bring return on what was invested. Be anxious for feedback and ready with plans to "bring it" for the final week.
If you are still working out in 6 months press to be rehired. In the interim stay open to new job opportunities and network within your industry.
4) Proper job searching networking includes groups of:
Other job seekers generous enough to bring position they interviewed for but were not selected for. There could be supplemental work in your field.
Association meetings and training sessions for people who would hire you. If you are in marketing go to meetings with Product Marketing Managers as an example. Present yourself as their optimum candidate
Of course do the job boards but you will get a job facing the most people you can so get involved or stay involved with groups who have things in common with you. If your church, community, sports, or hobby group meets regularly tell everyone you are looking for a position - make certain you can describe what you are ready to do in less than 10 words. I'll do anything will just get you a lower paying or higher pressure position.
Practice the answers to "Tell me about yourself?" "What are you looking for?" " Define the contributions you've made for past employers?" ... Speak in business terms about Turning failed business areas around, contributions from your ability to plan and complete major projects, give examples and quantify results.
Read business lists about cities near you with opportunities from plants, businesses, and new divisions moving into your area. Ask for help to connect with hiring managers.
My client found his great job within a few weeks in this Recovery by being open and letting all his buddies know he was ready to broaden himself with work beyond the large corporate, mature industry, organization. He now works for a smaller firm with just 3 years of business but plenty of work. He is very excited for future growth in this job and himself.
Jobs are forever changed, avoid wasting a minute trying to recreate what was, relish in the satisfaction of stretching your own horizons.
Enjoy Your Work In Recovery -
